First, second, third, fourth, and fifth grade students from St. Mary Catholic School participate in the Scripps Spelling Bee.  The top participant from each grade level spelling bee moves on to the school-wide bee, and that winner competes in the District Zone 4  Regional Spelling Bee in Beaumont.  The Regional winner advances to the Houston Public Media Regional Spelling Bee.  The winner of the Houston spelling bee advances to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
