St. Mary Catholic School was overjoyed to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Our school has served generations of families, coming from Orange County in Texas and Calcasieu Parish and beyond. Situated right over the Texas border from Louisiana, St. Mary Catholic School is now the only Catholic primary school within about a 25-mile drive.
It is a marvel that the first principal of St. Mary School's name was Sister Mary Benedicta Eckenrode, OP, in 1924, and the 100th year one's name in 2024 is Sister Mary Benedicta Maier, RSM. The first was a religious Sister of the Order of Preachers (OP), also known as the Dominican Order. The Dominicans founded many of the schools in this county, state, country, and all over the world. The current principal is a religious Sister of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, Michigan. Her community's Heavenly Patron is Saint Thomas Aquinas, a great theologian from the Dominican Order, who died in 1274. These historical connections can only be from the Lord!
Over the past 100 years, St. Mary School has offered a unique Catholic Christian education to people from all backgrounds. Alumni live all around Orange County, the State of Texas, and the world. The school first began as an elementary school and then expanded to include a middle school and high school. Currently, our school offers Pre-Kindergarten 3 and 4, Kindergarten, and up to Fifth Grade, focusing on building a strong foundation of learning, integrating humanities and life and physical sciences. The school reflects the needs and arts and industries of the area with strong fine arts and hands-on exploratory learning. Our school, being situated at 2600 Bob Hall Road in Orange on a very expansive piece of property, allows room for the students to learn and grow. St. Mary School is currently welcoming families to visit their school to consider enrolling.
Gratefully in Christ, Sister Mary Benedicta Maier, RSM, MS, Med Principal
